The Position

The Workforce and Professional Education Department at Ocean County College is a leading provider of healthcare education and training dedicated to preparing individuals for successful careers in the medical field. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic in-person EKG Technician Instructor to join our team and contribute to the success of our students.

EKG adjunct instructors are responsible for teaching students in both classroom and hands-on lab settings, ensuring that they gain the knowledge and skills that are required for entry-level employment in their chosen field. The Instructor is responsible for delivering established curriculum to students in a professional and proficient manner in preparation for the National Health Career Association CPT exam. EKG adjunct instructors will utilize sound educational practices towards the academic development of each program, manage their classroom and lab environments, promote a positive and engaging learning experience, provide support, tutoring and other assistance as needed. This position also assigns and grades assignments, inputs attendance records, monitors/orders supplies, and ensures an effective/safe learning environment through classroom management.

Classification: Workforce & Professional Education Instructor

Instructional Duration: Semester Based

Rate: $458/CEU (Continuing Education Units)
*Pay per class is dependent on the number of assigned Continuing Education Units (1 CEU is equivalent to 10 hours of work)


What You Will Do

1. Develop and implement a comprehensive EKG curriculum that meets industry standards and educational best practices.
2. Deliver instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings, covering topics such as cardiac anatomy and physiology, EKG interpretation, and patient care.
3. Evaluate student performance through exams, practical assessments, and assignments, providing constructive feedback to facilitate their growth.
4. Lead lecture and hands-on skills lab in a classroom environment.
5. Prepare for and instruct established and approved curriculum to students in a professional manner.
6. Review and discuss syllabi requirements at the start of each term with students.
7. Answer all student questions as they arise to ensure student understanding and completion of assignments.
8. Ensure students are aware of safety policies and monitor for correct procedures.
9. Maintain student records.
10. Develop and implement effective lesson plans.
11. Assess and track grades for didactic and clinical competencies.
12. Update curriculum based on industry certification, licensure and standards.
13. Prepare students for NHA national certifications (CPT).
14. Assist in the maintenance of equipment and supplies for program use.
15. Recognize need for and initiate student support plans and tutoring as needed.
16. Maintain professionalism within the classroom and coach students on their professionalism.
17. Other duties as assigned.


The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Certified EKG Technician (CET) or related credential.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in EKG or cardiovascular technology.
  3. Ability to use common software programs (MS Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point, etc.)
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Great interpersonal skills.
  6. Have the desire and ability to help students succeed in the medical field.

Even Better If You Have

  1. Associate's Degree.
  2. One or more years instructional experience in an educational or work-related setting.
  3. Experience teaching in a classroom setting or as a Supervisor at a medical facility.
