About the Job

The Division of Computational Health Sciences in the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor, Academic Track, related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and biomedical informatics. Exceptional faculty candidates should have a strong scholarly record of developing and applying computational and data science to health and are expected to develop a nationally recognized research program supported by extramural funds. They will access the exceptional patient data and translational opportunities through M Health Fairview and Academic Health Center-Information Exchange, and the Center for Learning Health System Sciences. The successful candidate will join a uniquely interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment of scientists and scholars conducting innovative and impactful research aimed at improving health care outcomes and delivery.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD, MD or equivalent degree with expertise in any area related to computer science, health data science, biomedical informatics. Faculty candidates will have active research on innovative computational methods for health sciences and clinical research. The specific areas of interest are not restricted and may include expertise in: artificial intelligence (including machine learning and neural networks), computer vision, predictive modeling, electronic health records, big data analytics, digital health and wearable devices, health informatics and clinical research informatics.

About the department/division
The Department of Surgery (DOS, https://med.umn.edu/surgery) at the University of Minnesota Medical School is driven to deliver clinical excellence, compassionate patient care, pioneering research, and the education of surgical leaders. The DOS consists of 62 faculty (47 clinical faculty members), approximately 36 fellows and 54 residents. The DOS has a rich history of renowned basic and clinical science research, distinguishing itself as an academic and clinical center of excellence. The Division of Computational Health Sciences is a newly created division which focuses on development of novel computational methods to analyze biomedical big data for advancing health care.
