About the Department:

The Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience in the College of Science at George Mason University is an academic program with a mission to advance understanding of the nervous system and train the next generation of neuroscientists and health professionals through multidisciplinary research while promoting access, diversity, and inclusion.

About the Position:

This is a full-time, instruction-focused, non-tenure track, nine-month faculty appointment. Position teaches and develops advanced undergraduate and graduate neuroscience courses to contribute to the expansion of the program. Specific duties include teaching a standard course load (typically 4:4 or 3:3 with additional advising or administrative duties). Courses may include introductory neuroscience, core neuroscience courses and lecture or laboratory courses in the incumbent's area of expertise. The position assists with program duties such as academic advising, program development, committee work, and new student events.

Responsibilities:

Instructional



  • Teaches and develops advanced undergraduate and graduate neuroscience courses to contribute to the expansion of the program.; and
  • Teaches a standard course load (typically 4:4 or 3:3 teaching with additional advising or administrative duties).


Administrative Responsibilities



  • Participates in faculty committees within IPN as well as College of Science and the university as a whole;
  • Performs program outreach on campus and in the local area; and
  • Mentors and advises students.


Required Qualifications:



  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Completion of a Ph.D. in neuroscience, biology or a related field prior to the first day of work;
  • Exhibits potential for excellent teaching and capacity for course and laboratory development;
  • Relevant teaching credentials and/or postdoctoral training desirable;
  • Experience and willingness to teach courses in computational neuroscience, general neuroscience, research experience courses, and/or other upper-level courses in the applicant's area of expertise;
  • Knowledge of neuroscience, biology or a related field;
  • Ability to provide excellent teaching and capacity for course and laboratory development; and
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Terminal degree in a related field; and
  • Ability and willingness to teach courses in computational neuroscience, general neuroscience, research experience courses, and/or other upper-level courses in the applicant's area of expertise.
