Job Summary

This position provides oral interpreting services for non-English speaking and limited English-speaking patients at the University of the California, Davis Health.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Meet minimum California auto insurance requirements.
  • Passing score on internal Interpreter Competency Test
  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish
  • Experience applying medical terminology in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from an independent medical interpreter school or program.
  • Minimum of 6 months of dedicated healthcare interpreter experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • 90% - Oral Interpreting
  • 10% - Record keeping and other duties

Department Overview

Medical Interpreting Services provides a range of language access services, including on-site, telephone, video interpreting, and written translations to ensure access to healthcare services for NES/LES and deaf/hard-of-hearing patients.

Work Environment

Has mandatory reporting responsibilities for domestic violence, child abuse and elder/dependent abuse Ability to safely lift 25 pounds and assist in moving patients, and to stand on feet over extended periods Works overtime as defined by the collective bargaining agreements, floats to other areas and works weekends and holidays References reflect an overall meet or exceeds.

  • This is a critical position, as defined by UC policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s)
  • This position is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy, and employment is contingent on compliance with applicable policies, procedures and training requirements
  • Must be in possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must meet minimum California auto insurance requirements.
  • Must obtain a passing score on internal Interpreter Competency Test
