Under direction from the Research Scientist III (RSIII) in PHI's Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC), the Research Associate III (RAIII) will support short- and long-term research projects at CRGC's Research Unit. This will include coordinating and assisting with routine research work including data collection efforts, management, and analysis. The RAIII will be responsible for recommending feasible work plans, ensuring the day-to-day data collection work is going per plan, identify potential issues that may risk achieving project goals, and come up with potential solutions to share with the PI and the rest of the team for discussion. The RAIII will also be involved with data management and analysis for research projects, and assist with the development of research protocols, technical documents and reports, as well as manuscripts and conference presentations.

This is a regular full-time hybrid position located in Sacramento, CA. The incumbent is required to be based within 50-mile radius of Sacramento, CA, and be able to work both remotely and in person in the Sacramento office as required. Some travel within and outside California for outreach research projects or other work activities may be required.

Full salary range for this position: $62,968 to $90,167 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $62,968 (minimum) to $76,568 (midpoint). The starting salary is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

• Supports and manages day-to-day routine of short and long-term research projects including recruitment of study participants/facilities, data collection, and other research-related efforts.
• Work with data collection team to ensure timely collection and processing of data and ensure quality of data collected.
• Conducts data cleaning, management and statistical analysis of registry data using tools such as SAS, R, and SEER*Stat.
• Prepares tables and figures using cancer data and assists with interpretation and summarization of data.
• Expands and maintains databases used to track follow-up and progress of various research projects.
• Follows standard operating procedures, protocols, and quality controls as required in research projects.
• Conducts literature reviews and assists with the development of research protocols, technical documents and reports as well as manuscripts and conference presentations.
• Assists with response to data requests, data disclosures and cancer concerns, effectively communicating with external researchers and community members.
• Work remotely and in the Sacramento office as required.
• Travel within and outside California for outreach research projects or other work activities as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• 3 years' experience in epidemiological or other relevant public health research work involving human subjects and data collection, and of this, 1 year's experience in data analysis using statistical programs such as SAS, R, SEER*Stat.
• Bachelor's degree in science or quantitative field, or substitute with four additional years of related

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Strong computer skills required with specific experience with Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and experience with statistical tools such as SAS, R, SEER*Stat.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to complete work with minimal error.
• Experience with preparing grant proposals and IRB submissions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with study team as well as external researchers, facilities, and study participants.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in small groups.
• Ability to progress on several projects concurrently.
• Ability to travel within and outside California for outreach research projects or other work activities as required.
• Master's degree in epidemiology or biostatistics preferred.
• Must be able to pass the background check required for this position.
