Pay Rate / Range:Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $77,000 to $139,200/year. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $77,000 to $84,000/year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Reporting to UCEAP's Director of Marketing, Communications, and Engagement, works on strategic marketing and communications projects that promote and bring awareness for UCEAP programs. Oversees and contributes to the communication activities and promotional priorities of the organization. Uses a data-driven approach to effectively promote, market, execute, and evaluate marketing projects and campaigns, and is involved with both strategy, writing, execution, and feedback of assigned projects and campaigns. Works collaboratively with subject matter experts, UCEAP faculty and staff, and other UC clients to brainstorm concepts and creative directions that carry the UCEAP brand to students and other targeted audiences. Writes and edits a variety of comprehensive material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, development of content, and emphasis. Researches, selects sources, and ensures accuracy of written pieces. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of print and digital materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in marketing or communications positions.
  • 1-3 years - strong event support and promotion skills.
  • 1-3 years of demonstrated competencies in web and computer applications relating to marketing, recruitment, and promotions.
  • 3-5 years of experience creating, managing, and adapting marketing plans and projects that achieve enrollment or revenue targets.
  • 1-3 years of experience with GA4 or Google Analytics.
  • Project management, independent problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively monitor and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines and tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues, and other partners.
  • Strong analytic and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of marketing mediums, communication principles, media and marketing techniques.
  • Experience developing multichannel enrollment and recruitment marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to contribute to content needs, including newsletter articles, blog articles, and marketing copy.
  • Experience constructing messages for multiple media sources including print publications, web, email marketing communications, and social media.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with presentations, graphics, and multimedia design software.
  • Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc.).
  • Experience in marketing and communications in the higher education sector.
  • Experience with enterprise-wide branding and design services like Canva.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • The UCEAP Systemwide Office is located in Goleta, CA (near the UCSB campus). Eligible for a hybrid work arrangement which may require presence at the UCEAP Systemwide Office for occasional leadership and staff meetings, delegation visits, training sessions, etc. The University is unable to pay or reimburse expenses prohibited by University policy, including travel expenses associated with commuting to the designated office.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

50% Planning, Coordination, and Implementation of Marketing Programs and Initiatives - Plans and executes multichannel marketing campaigns and manages projects, such as recruitment campaigns, event promotion, and advertising campaigns. Uses CMS and web platforms (Drupal, WordPress, etc.) to manage, create, and edit new and existing web content. Leverages email marketing platforms (Dynamics 365, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Hubspot, etc.) to create, execute, reflect, and adjust email campaigns. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of printed and online material, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives for promotion and awareness of UCEAP programs. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

30% Content Creating and Writing - Conceives, researches, writes, edits, and/or publishes marketing materials and strategic communications. Creates content for external communications, web content, articles, emails, social media, promotional materials, proposals, and press releases, which can include student recruitment email automation, event invitations, UCEAPulse newsletter, The Californian Abroad blog, and the Viewbook. Interviews subjects (i.e. staff, collaborators, students, etc.) both for background information and for blogs or feature articles.

10% Analytics and Research - Collects, assess, report, and make campaign changes based on campaign and web analytics. Provides campaign and strategic change recommendations based on campaign analytics and data. Conducts marketing and campaign research by researching competitor and peer marketing strategies and staying up-to-date in industry trends.

10% Communications and Collaboration - Serves as liaison and collaborates closely with various UCEAP units to address marketing-related issues, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Designs communication flows and craft marketing messages tailored to specific target audiences to drive engagement and resonate with diverse stakeholders. Develops tracking reports to assess the effectiveness of messaging strategies and provide valuable insights to managers, enabling informed decision-making. Communication Consultation: Works closely with units to identify key issues and opportunities for message development. Establishes and nurture strong working relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external.
