Position Summary:

Provide project leadership and support outreach efforts under the IEL Civics Grant, teaching on the job training to Adults who have English as a Second Language through Generations Cafe.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach Generations Cafe Interns under the guidance of the grant

  2. Connect community organizations to Great Rivers in hopes to develop partnerships for adding education to their current business model.

  3. Facilitate all communications with community partners for On the Job Training

  4. Direct potential adults in areas of: education planning, life-skills, careers, community resources and connect all entities together for people

  5. Network and support district parents who have a first language other than English regarding free English classes

  6. Assist in the implementation of new programs and events to enhance the presence of this program in the community

  7. Represent the program at community functions as needed

  8. Arrange meetings with interested individuals, groups, committees, and boards to identify their resources to meet the educational interests and needs of students.

  9. Gather requested data and statistics, track equipment and supplies and costs, perform inventory control and purchasing duties as needed or directed.

  10. Prepare announcements, email blasts, bulletins, flyers, calendars, and other promotion material.

  11. Keep Supervisors and other management staff informed of daily problems, new developments, work accomplishments and status of operation.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Desired:

  1. Experience writing and implementing grants.

  2. Understanding of the college application process.

  3. Background in Counseling and/or Social Services.

Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree

  2. Teaching License

  3. Computer Skills: Advanced competency in operating MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook computer software programs and proven ability to learn new applications as well as competency in Google Docs and applications.

  4. Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with students, families, supervisors and staff in a positive and effective manner.

  5. Outstanding capacity to apply conflict resolution and mediation skills to resolve sensitive issues.

  6. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.

  7. Demonstrates an appreciation for diversity in all interactions and job functions.

  8. Excellent customer service skills.

  9. Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

  10. Flexible: someone who is able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and conditions and can adjust effectively with complexity and change.

  11. Persistent: problem solvers who demonstrate tenacity and willingness to learn all systems needed to execute their work.

  12. Skilled at cultivating teamwork: leaders who reach out to peers and cooperate with supervisors to establish an overall collaborative working relationship.
