ENGINEER - AEROSPACE

Summary

This full-time position is based out of Chatsworth, California. The position serves as an associate or entry level engineer with up to 5 years of mechanical engineering experience. The primary responsibility for this position is to support the development of calculations and consultation for process systems and existing facility infrastructure. An emphasis on ASME pressure vessel and process piping is necessary. Other areas of specific experience include fluid flow calculation, pipe stress analysis, and general mechanical integrity assessment, component specification. Will also be responsible for preparing project and shop fabrication schedules in MS Project, tracking component deliveries, and assisting with Quality Assurance documentation.

Responsibilities



  • Perform calculations / analyses verifying compliance to ASME Code including finite element analysis and fracture mechanics under the supervision of Senior Engineering



  • Assessing the mechanical integrity of process piping, pressure vessels, and system devices and components; as-built system drawings; data collection; and the development & field checking of drawings for each system, as directed



  • Prepare project and fabrication schedules in MS Project and assist senior engineering with the update / maintenance of these schedules



  • Assist shop personnel with the preparation and completion of quality assurance documentation and supporting documentation required by GP's ISO-9001 program



  • Occasional hands-on support to technicians in shop fabrication and field installation activities



Minimum Qualifications


  • Previous experience with GP Strategies Corporation or worked on Aerospace facilities with Ground Support equipment and high pressure/cryogenic systems

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering



  • Ability to multi-task and work as a self-starter



  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. AutoCAD is a plus



  • Must be competent in producing reports and developing procedures



  • Understanding of process piping systems



  • Understanding of Pressure Technology Codes and Standards [ASME, API, AWS, & ASNT] and apply knowledge in analytical calculations for stress, strain, fatigue, creep, as well as other potential failure mechanisms



  • Willingness to learn and keep abreast of new information relating to mechanical integrity issues



  • Must be willing and physically able to go out and walk-down mechanical systems in an industrial environment

  • Assignment Location - Client/Onsite



  • Medium work - The requirements for onsite assignments include those noted above AND may also include reaching, driving, standing, stooping, frequently lifting 20 lbs., grasping, walking, hearing, crawling, climbing ladders/stairs/ramps, crouching.



  • Visual acuity to view surroundings and identify potential hazards to safety while perming essential functions of the job. Visual acuity to operate motorized vehicles, dials and measuring devices.



  • Both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. At certain client sites the employee may be subjected to:



  • Extreme temperatures



  • Humidity



  • Vibration



  • Noise



  • May be required to wear protective gear
