Overview

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for an Ultrasound Technologist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. The Hospital is part of the NYC Health + Hospitals System (NYCHHC). Harlem Hospital is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and is recognized for providing centers of excellence in the areas of Bariatric Surgery, Breast Imaging and Sexual Assault Forensics. Our teams provide services for nearly 213,000 outpatient visits, more than 83,000 emergency room visits and over 13,000 inpatient admissions annually.

Responsibilities

Schedule would be 10am to 6pm to include 1 to 2 weekends a month.

Under the direction of the Radiologist or Technical Supervisor performs routine ultrasound and vascular ultrasound procedures on patients whose condition requires specialized expertise at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail but will require independent judgment and initiative in the Ultrasound section.

    Prepares and maintains exam room in a state of orderliness.
  • Introduces him/herself to the patient and confirms patient identification with two (2) identifiers.
  • Explains procedure to patient.
  • Escorts or transports patients from reception area to exam room.
  • Performs procedure requested and presents images to supervisor or attending for review before discharging patient.
  • Obtains additional images if necessary.
  • Ensures all studies are tracked and images pushed to PACS.
  • Fills gel bottles when empty.
  • Ensures that probes are sent to Central Sterile for sterilization after use.
  • Attends in-service and other section meetings as required.
  • Assists in the orientation of new hires, training of ultrasound students and training/supervision of students rotating from the School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Performs portable ultrasound exams on rotating basis.
  • Will be required to rotate through all tours inclusive of weekends.
  • Practices infection control - wash hands and sanitized equipment between patients.
  • Reports equipment malfunction to supervisor/service engineer in a timely manner and monitors Preventative Maintenance of ultrasound equipment.
  • Reports accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor or appropriate personnel.
  • Responsible for completing annual physical examination.
  • Performs other job-related functions as necessary/directed.
  • May be designated technologist-in-charge in the absence of the supervisor.

  • Meets all compliance standards/requirements such as annual physical evaluation/assessment. Annual in-service Training; Right-to-Know; Fire Drill participation, etc.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Be responsible for enhancing your personal and professional development through attendance at outside and Northern Manhattan Network training sessions.
  • Be responsible for wearing professional attire to the workplace as well as during off site work when conducting business on behalf of the H+H Harlem.
  • Exhibits flexibility within the H+H Harlem as it pertains to work assignment, workplace, site designation and tour of duty.
  • Adheres to the Vision/Mission and Value Statement of the organization in all endeavors.


Qualifications

CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S):

  • ARDMS certification in Ultrasonography required.
  • Proven Clinical competency in Abdominal. OB/GYN, Neonatal and Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Responsible to maintain 30 CME credits within a 3-year rolling period for recertification annually
  • Attend annual In-service and Continuing Education training.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • Associate Degree
  • Satisfactory completion of a course in Diagnostic Ultrasound in an AMA approved school.
  • Salary - $69,069.22
  • This is an 1199 union position. Benefits will come from the union.
