The Rutgers Brain Health Institute ( BHI), the Rutgers University Center for Autism Research, Education, and Services ( RUCARES) and Department of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School ( RWJMS) in New Brunswick, New Jersey are seeking applicants for a full-time (12-month), tenure-track assistant or associate professor position for a clinical research program focused on improving interventions for young children with autism spectrum disorder ( ASD). Ideal candidates will have an active federally-funded research program in early intervention research in autism, with a proven track record of integrating research and clinical practice, delivering empirically supported interventions, and compassionately improving the lives of young children with ASD and their families. This faculty member will supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research and clinical staff in the conduction of clinical research and the delivery of high-quality clinical services. Initially, about 50% of the position time will be allocated to research and 50% to clinical service, but the individual can reduce their clinical load through the procurement of external grant support. The position requires a doctoral degree in behavior analysis or psychology and corresponding eligibility for professional licensure in New Jersey. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other autism researchers and clinicians at Rutgers University and Children's Specialized Hospital ( CSH). RUCARES is a partnership between CSH and the BHI at Rutgers University. RUCARES is devoted to innovative research, education, and service with a focus on diagnosing, treating, and supporting children and adults with ASD. RUCARES, and its clinical arm CSH RUCARES, are the first centers of their kind in New Jersey. This collaboration provides the opportunity to partner on care and research for those with ASD.
The RWJMS Department of Pediatrics has a full complement of pediatric medical subspecialists who actively collaborate with pediatric surgical specialists in clinical care and academic endeavors. In the department are more than 140 physicians and basic scientists who conduct collaborative research with an emphasis on mechanisms of disease, novel therapies, epidemiology and/or outcomes research in the areas of relevance to childhood diseases. Our centers of excellence include The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, Child Health Sciences, and the Institute for the Study of Child Development. The Department has recently expanded by more than 50 new faculty members and plans to recruit additional faculty, to expand our research, education, and clinical programs and provide improved care to our patients. The Department provides a productive setting for the study of basic mechanisms of disease and outcomes research that would provide new insights to the treatment of childhood diseases.
BHI is an internationally recognized institute for basic, translational, and clinical research into the biological bases of human brain function and dysfunction. BHI supports over 300 neuroscience faculty labs engaged in basic and clinical research at Rutgers. BHI has created multiple centers of excellence in autism, Alzheimer's, addiction, human brain imaging and computational cognitive neuropsychiatry with outstanding core facilities, including a new research-dedicated 3T Prisma MRI scanner and a human behavioral testing core developed and operated in collaboration with Princeton University.
