The Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct specialized research linking a collaborative project investigating the provenance of alkenones versus foraminiferal based paleo sea surface temperature proxies in the western Atlantic with a project reconstructing the ventilation of the Indian Ocean over the last glacial cycle It is expected that you have expertise in many of the following areas including planktic and benthic foraminiferal speciation, light stable isotope analysis of carbonates (d18Ocalcite and d13Ccalcite), trace metal analyses of carbonates for temperature reconstruction (e.g. Mg/Ca), preparation of foraminifera for radiocarbon analyses, and age modelling of marine sediment cores.
The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to participate in an upcoming cruise, data processing and interpretation necessary to conduct the project. It is anticipated that research will lead to publications and the Postdoctoral associate will be expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The Postdoctoral Associate will also be expected to train and mentor undergraduates in scientific research projects.

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position will be the following:
1.) Preparation of marine sediment samples for foraminiferal-based geochemical analyses.
2.) Speciation of foraminiferal samples by light microscopy.
3.) Conduct and interpret foraminiferal-based geochemical analyses especially radiocarbon and trace metals.
4.) Prepare manuscripts for publication.
5.) Participate in national and international scientific meetings.
6.) Coordinate multi-investigator and multi-institution collaborative interactions with regard to the project.
7.) Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
8.) Understand and adhere to Rutgers' compliance standards, SEBS's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
9.) Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates must have completed a doctoral (Ph.D.) level program in Oceanography, Earth Sciences or a related field. Ph.D. Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: Quaternary paleoceanography of the Southern Ocean, Quaternary paleoceanography of the Atlantic Ocean, Quaternary planktic foraminiferal taxonomy, glacial - interglacial reorganization of thermohaline circulation, and foraminiferal isotope geochemistry. The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Computer data input required. Ability to use computing resources, conduct sample preparation using a light microscope and perform bench-laboratory sample preparation.

Participation in an upcoming research cruise will be expected.

Laboratory environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
