As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist II, you will be primarily responsible for maintaining clinical equipment and systems considered to be advanced, specialty, highly sophisticated, integrated technology, or requiring manufacturer service training or certification, through the effective use of the medical equipment management plan, while adhering to all medical equipment policies and procedures, and manufacturer or alternative equipment maintenance (AEM) specifications. Performs various tasks associated with installation, testing, maintenance, calibration and repair of medical equipment and systems.

Responds to advanced support requests. Diagnoses, resolves, and closes issues involving high value, complex medical equipment, and systems according to service level guidelines. Services complex, specialty, highly sophisticated modalities. Takes part in on-call rotation, covering after-hours and weekends. Ensures that preventative maintenance is promptly performed accordingly to the established schedule. Make daily rounds within the hospital and advanced/specialized modality areas to assure proper operation of medical equipment and systems while correcting any deviations.
Orders parts, receives, inventories, assembles, inspects, and tests equipment and documents results. Coordinates efforts with supervisor and/or experienced technicians or specialists as appropriate. Inspects and tests electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical medical and scientific equipment according to specific test procedures. Verifies equipment safety and accuracy for continued use.
Documents all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Ensures documentation is accurate, complete, and timely. Provides monthly reports as needed. Provides clear, concise, and timely follow up with colleagues, ensuring they know the status of work being performed on their equipment. Provides technical in-service or instruction to facility staff in proper operation of patient care equipment on an as-needed basis.
Provides advanced support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.Reviews department/unit operations manual to ensure compliance with applicable Joint Commission standards, federal and state regulations, accepted Standards of Conduct, and the Corporate Compliance Program. Complies with all MedStar Health Policies and Procedures, Corporate Compliance Program Standards of Conduct, and all applicable statutes, rules, and regulations.
Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas. Maintains department facilities, equipment and materials in a condition that promotes efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. Anticipates needs of the department, proactively suggests improvement ideas to simplify processes and assists in policy or procedure implementation. Provides information for the development of policies, procedures, and records to fulfill or exceed regulatory requirements.
Associate degree in Biomedical equipment technology, electronics, or related field; or related military work/training in mechanical, electrical bio medical engineering or academic work or actual work experience aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Technician.
3-4 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of advanced, specialty, highly sophisticated, or integrated medical equipment and systems.
