The Test Manager is responsible for ensuring that all Medium Power Transformers and associated accessories are tested to ensure compliance customer specification and IEEE C57.12.90 requirements. The Test Manager must assure that all necessary safety protocols, equipment capacity, and employee knowledge and training exist to assure successful test outcomes.

The Test Manager shall review customer testing requirements and IEEE testing criteria to validate Goldsboro's capability to perform all requirements a technological and manpower standpoint. Gaps shall be addressed via appropriate changes to the work force, equipment upgrades, capital projects and management controls. The Test Manager will ultimately be responsible for ensuring all aspects of dielectric, thermal and assembly testing are accomplished and properly executed, documented and reported.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure completion of all required product testing in accordance with customer specification and IEEE C57.12.90 test code.
  • Develop all standard test plans and safety protocols for all product testing.
  • Development diagnostic testing protocols to help assist in troubleshooting and isolation of root causes of product test issues.
  • Conduct process audits and job safety analysis for all tasks to assure appropriate engineered safety controls and PPE precautions.
  • Assure proper reporting and documentation of all test results and preparation of Certified Test Reports.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, supervisions, and training for Test Department personnel.
  • Develop annual operating budget for cost center (2150) and assure proper cost management.
  • Develops strategies to improve throughput through both dielectric and heat run test bays.
  • Ensures the discharge of the Test Department's ISO responsibilities (i.e. calibration)
  • Keeps abreast of current IEEE C57.12.90 requirements for transformer testing.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for test department, perform OEE scoring for equipment, and assure preventative maintenance activities are conducted for major equipment.
  • Provide the necessary cross training for test technicians to support quality specialist activity and back up support.
  • Provide technical expertise, roadmap development and project management for capital project execution involving test department.
  • Provide technical support, technical presentations, and/or interface with customers for witness testing, plant seminars, or regional technical seminars.
  • Supports Sales Operations by evaluating customer testing requirements with regard to GT's capability to comply with customer perform them.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Efficiently manage departmental priorities, as well as internal (business) and external (customer) demands.
  • Excellent team building skills
  • Work with a small department that covers a 3 shift schedule.
  • Strong knowledge of AC theory and circuits, electrical safety, ISO standards, and quality processes and systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooter and critical thinker.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 2 years of experience with transformer and/or HV electrical equipment testing in a production, field or laboratory environment.

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of production testing experience in Transformer manufacturing facility with transformers with primary voltage of 69 kV or greater.

  • Engineering organization, including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and applications engineering groups
  • Operations management, including plant supervision, quality, planning, etc.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

Working Conditions

Shop floor and office environment, located on large manufacturing campus. Occasional exposure to potential accidents, routine shop exposure, infrequent company travel.
