The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Team Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for research and education opportunities at the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC). This person will complement and expand a thriving and long-standing research program involving multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, clinicians, and other rehabilitation scientists. NUPOC operates a Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics clinical education program and houses the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Motion Analysis Research Laboratory, a state-of-the-art laboratory for biomechanical measurement of human movement

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a research program portfolio independently and in collaboration with others, within and outside of PM&R and within and outside of Northwestern University, by conducting research related to prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation, applied biomechanics, and/or biomedical engineering.
  2. Write and generate research grant proposals and secure extramural research funding, related to prosthetics and orthotics.
  3. Provide teaching and mentorship for MPO, medical, undergraduate, and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty members.
  4. Write and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present at national or international conferences related to research.
  5. Participate in and collaborate in Department activities, as requested by the Department Chair.

Qualifications:

  1. Doctorate degree from accredited university required; Doctorate in an Engineering specialty, Prosthetics-Orthotics, or related discipline, preferred.
  2. Postdoctoral research experience, at least 2 years, required.
  3. At least 2 years of experience in rehabilitation, prosthetics, and/or orthotics related research preferred.
  4. Proven track record of successful research publications and presentations is preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to write and generate research grant proposals and secure extramural research funding, preferred.
  6. Training and/or experience with motion capture, biomechanics, motor control, robotics, sensors, or rehabilitation science preferred.
  7. Passion for prosthetics-orthotics and rehabilitation research, and dedication to improving the prosthetics-orthotics and rehabilitation professions.
