Growing Opthalmic clinic

Willing to train for those who have prior medical background (secretary, medical assistant, etc.)

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepares patient for ophthalmological examination, taking pertinent ocular and medical history.
2. Performs various ophthalmic duties including but not inclusive to visual acuity, color vision, manual lensometry, pupil testing, axial length, estimation of anterior chamber angle, tonometry, auto refraction, ocular ultrasonography, and ophthalmic photography, visual fields, automated keratometry, corneal topography and external photography.
3. Performs other duties required to assist in and insure delivery of complete ophthalmic care in taking care of patients, including the instillation of diagnostic ophthalmic drops and ointments per standing MD orders.
4. Reviews with the patient use of ocular dressings, shields, ocular medications, laser treatment and minor surgical procedures.
5. Insures that equipment is in proper working order for patient safety and notifies appropriate personnel when a problem is identified.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:Required:
1. Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year from date of hire as a condition of employment.
2. Certified in BLS is required; or must become certified within 6 months of date of hire.
3. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLSS) certification every two years.

Preferred:
1. Certification as COT or COMT is preferred.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Must have through knowledge of specialized and technical field of Ophthalmology.
2. A minimum of one year work experience in Ophthalmology is required with knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology a must.
3. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification every two years.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

M-F, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
