The Department of Mathematics in the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data Science in Applied Mathematics starting September 1, 2025. The new hire is expected to join the Mathematics Department and to increase synergy and collaboration with existing data science research groups in the Mathematics Department and across the College. In addition to a new Data and Quantum Science Center, six PhD degree programs in CSM, including the interdisciplinary Computational Sciences PhD program, and various faculty conducting data driven research across the CSM and the University provide a rich environment for collaboration and career growth. State-of-the-art research computing facilities, including several high-performance computing clusters are available to UMass Boston researchers. Partnerships and collaborations with academic institutions and industry research laboratories in the Greater Boston area offer substantial opportunities for professional development. UMass Boston is an urban public research university with a teaching soul, whose impact is both local and global. We are the third most diverse university in the country - more than 60% of our undergraduate students come from minoritized communities and groups and more than half of our students are the first in their families to attend a college or university. Thus, our students come to us from richly diverse life experiences and backgrounds; they bring to our classrooms and research settings the robust range of perspectives growing out of the socio-cultural, economic, and historical contexts in which they have lived, along with the challenges they encounter, engage, and strive to overcome. We invite applications from candidates who engage the diverse life experiences of our student body, who appreciate that students bring their holistic selves into the academic setting, and who recognize and articulate how their own life experiences and backgrounds have shaped their journeys, practices, and commitments as researchers, scholars, and educators. Application instructions: Please submit (i) a cover letter; (ii) curriculum vitae; (iii) a statement of current research, vision and future research plans; (iv) a description of teaching philosophy, experience and future teaching plans (https://employmentopportunities.umb.edu/boston/en-us/listing/). You should arrange for at least three (3) writers to submit letters of recommendation to the search committee at the time of application. The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applications should be received by December 1, 2024. For inquiries, email: math@umb.edu. UMass Boston is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. As part of this commitment, we will ensure that persons with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations for the hiring process.
