The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Technical Design department of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology. The curriculum and faculty integrate industry and academic expertise in markets serving the fashion industry, business environments ranging from local to global contexts, and contemporary and future-focused industry technologies. The Baker School of Business and Technology educates students that become graduates with skill sets and industry knowledge that are immediately valuable to employers, empowering our alumni to forge successful, satisfying careers as rising professionals in the fashion and related creative fields. Seven of the ten Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The Technical Design department offers a Bachelor of Science (BS). Emphasizing creative thinking, cultural awareness, and communication and technology skills, the program prepares students for careers in the areas of technical design, patternmaking, specification technicians, and product development in the manufacturing and private label sectors. Students gain a global perspective through a blend of academic study and hands-on experience. The curriculum fosters the development of creative and business acumen, preparing students for successful careers across a wide range of marketing communications fields, including advertising, brand management, video production and media technologies, public relations, communications, journalism, and direct and interactive marketing. Job Description: The Baker School of Business and Technology seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member with specialized expertise in apparel pattern making. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in flat patterns with strong working knowledge of grading and marking. In depth knowledge of fabric, apparel, materials, construction and fit are essential. The successful candidate will have relevant experience in women's sportswear with additional experience in men's sportswear and childrenswear a plus. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to innovation in traditional and technical production pattern making and be able to teach fit sessions and pattern corrections on live models. The candidate must have experience using PLM software for creating technical packets. Primary responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures and demonstrations that promote active learning and encourage creative thinking. The new faculty member will be expected to develop and expand the curriculum in the areas of womens, mens, and childrens sportswear, grading, marking, fitting and pattern corrections. Candidates must test out by making 3 women's patterns; pleated trouser pant, sailor collar blouse, and a shawl collar jacket with a fit session for pattern corrections on a live model. Additional responsibilities include advising students, mentoring, facilitating internships, alumni engagement, department meetings, and participating in industry functions. The new faculty member will serve on department, school, and college-wide committees, support accreditation, and participate in administrative activities as required.
