Summary:

Under general supervision of the Manager of Maintenance & Repair plans coordinates and supervises activities of carpenters shop locksmith painters shop and sign shop to design construct install maintain and repair wood fixtures and install flooring materials. Estimates time labor and materials needed for project. Prepares and maintains related records and reports

Responsibilities:

Supervises carpenters locksmith painters and sign maker including participating in interviewing recommending selection training scheduling assigning work and evaluating performance.

Makes recommendations on salary adjustments and as necessary disciplinary action including termination to Manager of Maintenance & Repair.

Manages and directs work orders for rebuilding or repairing of furniture walls windows and frames custom cabinet making medical exhibits installation and replacement of Formica tops floor and ceiling tiles installation of fixtures dry wall handrails locks hardware ceramic tile packing crates installation of sheetrock patching walls painting sign making and similar projects. Also responds in cases needing emergency response.

Initiates and oversees preventative maintenance tasks including assets like fire doors Estimates time labor and materials required to complete project. Orders necessary supplies equipment.

Determines need for and recommends selection of subcontractor services to supervisor for approval; may solicit bids for materials and/or services making recommendations based on submitted bids.

Sets priority for project schedules with user department and coordinates work with other trade supervisors as necessary.

Adjusts schedules of supervised employees as necessary.

Visits work sites to assure satisfactory progression and to provide functional guidance to carpenters. Assures work performed according to established safety standards. Inspects completed work.

Prepares and maintains records and reports of projects.

Participates in development of policies and procedures for departments carpenters and associated shops.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High School level of knowledge with courses in blueprint reading carpentry and woodworking.

Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program to Journeyman or equivalent on-the-job training.

Knowledge of means methods and codes for typical carpentry finish services and commercial construction.

Supervisory skills to direct and evaluate work of subordinate trades personnel.

Analytical and organizational skills to plan schedule and coordinate work projects and to prepare estimates and other appropriate materials.

Knowledge of carpentry including design construction and repair of a variety of wooden fixtures and structures.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five years experience performing full range of carpenter*s duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises up to 15 FTEs as well as providing functional guidance to others who may be assigned on a project basis.
