Summary

An Ocean Import Manager is responsible for overseeing the importation of goods by ocean, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of cargo, and maintaining strong relationships with customers and vendors. This role requires excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of logistics and supply chain management.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Manage and oversee the importation of goods by ocean, including carrier selection, booking, and movement of goods through various transportation channels
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, including customs regulations and trade laws
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and other third-party service providers to ensure efficient and effective delivery of cargo
  • Collaborate with other internal departments, such as logistics, finance, and operations, to ensure timely and efficient service delivery
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, such as cargo delivery times, costs, and quality
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve efficiency and quality of service delivery
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs, improve service quality, and enhance customer satisfaction



Educational background / Work experience



  • A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is required
  • At least 5 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or a related field is required
  • Prior experience in ocean imports and supervisory experience is highly desirable



Skills & Competencies



  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment



Supervisory Responsibilities (if any)



  • This role typically involves supervising a team of import coordinators and other support staff



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with leading ocean cargo logistics software and systems
  • Familiarity with ocean freight regulations, customs requirements, and import controls
  • Knowledge of shipping routes and schedules



Language skills



  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of additional languages is a plus



Computer Literacy



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with logistics software and systems is required

For this position, the expected base pay is: $78,000.00 - $117,500.00 / Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
