About the Job

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work on an innovative project aimed at detecting and mapping tree diseases using advanced remote sensing techniques. This is a full-time, one-year position, with the possibility of extension based on performance. The successful candidate will take a leading role in leveraging satellite-based Land Surface Phenology (LSP) metrics to develop predictive models for detecting fungal tree disease across Minnesota. The project involves several key steps to be carried out by the successful candidate with active support from the PIs:
- Identifying and Characterizing Phenological Patterns: involves analyzing time series of LSP metrics to distinguish between healthy and symptomatic trees.
- Testing Discriminative Power of LSP Metrics: includes assessing the ability of various spectral indices to differentiate symptomatic trees from healthy ones.
- Building Predictive Models: you will develop models to predict and map the distribution of symptomatic trees using LSP data.
- Transferability and Model Development: involves testing the applicability of detection models to new areas.

Key Responsibilities Percentage Breakdown:
- 70% Conduct time series analysis of LSP based on Sentinel-2 imagery. Develop and test predictive models of disease detection;
- 25% Contribute to manuscript preparation and reports;
- 5% Other duties including preparing and delivering presentations; conducting outreach with the public;
