Overview
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Managing Director for the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS). The Managing Director's responsibilities will include teaching two courses per year within the Cognitive Science program and administrative responsibilities for the operations of the Center, including supervising multiple staff members and managing academic programming, fiscal operations, and special projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Teaches up to two courses per year within the purview of Cognitive Science. This may include traditional subject matter instruction in Cognitive Science (including related fields like Philosophy, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, or Data Science), or alternative offerings in professional development, career opportunities within Cognitive Science, or other content depending on the expertise of the successful candidate and needs of the Center.
* Works with the Director to develop and implement strategies to fulfill RuCCS' mission to promote world-class interdisciplinary scholarship in cognitive science and exceptional educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
* Operational administration of RuCCS, strategic development of financial, space, and human resources, leadership of a diverse team, establishment of institutional collaborations, and execution of special projects.
* Oversees all aspects of the day-to-day administration of RuCCS.
* Collaborates with the Director in setting and achieving strategic goals related to the RuCCS mission.
* Takes initiative in providing leadership to RuCCS, in coordination with the Director.
* Supervises three staff members who handle day-to-day operations in business management, administrative assistance, and research computing, managing the staff to achieve tactical and strategic goals in a timely and resource efficient manner.
* Works with the Director and faculty leadership to promote academic excellence for undergraduate and graduate courses and certificate programs.
* Promotes scholarly excellence for collaborative research projects led by RuCCS faculty.
* Performs periodic performance reviews of staff & programs.
* Provides professional development opportunities for staff and faculty.
* Evaluates programmatic and academic impacts.
* Creates and organizes clear, regular communications with the RuCCS faculty.
* Deepens and refines all aspects of external communications to strengthen the RuCCS and Rutgers brands and coordinate external communications to alumni and the public.
Established in 1991, the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS) is one of the most prominent cognitive science research centers in the world and promotes interdisciplinary scholarship seeking to understand the workings of the human mind. RuCCS has about 35 core faculty members and dozens of faculty associates from a diverse array of academic departments, most commonly from Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics, and Computer Science. We also offer rapidly growing and highly innovative educational programs in Cognitive Science, including an undergraduate major and minor, a graduate certificate program, and a thriving postdoctoral teacher-scholar program. The Center houses numerous faculty and laboratory spaces in the Rutgers Psychology Building in Piscataway, NJ and hosts a steady stream of visiting speakers, scholarly workshops and conferences, and other academic programming. The Managing Director will play a leadership role in all aspects of the Center's operations.
