Target hiring range for this position will be between be $123,492 to $177,077 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of Executive Education will be responsible for leading, developing, and executing the overall strategy for innovative executive and professional education at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, including expanding our current programs. The Law School requires a visionary leader with a passion for legal education, strategic planning skills, and a strong commitment to innovation. This position will collaborate with the Dean, members of the Senior Leadership Team, Alumni Relations and Development, the Career Strategy Center, Public Interest Center, the Law School's academic programs, and other units at Northwestern on programming, initiatives, and partnerships with law firms, government and public interest organizations, and corporations. The Assistant Dean is responsible for generating incremental revenue through these programs, initiatives, and partnerships. The role oversees 3-5 direct reports.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Program Development: Develop, direct and execute the overall strategy for innovative executive and professional education programs tailored to the needs of legal professionals, executives, and organizations. Ensure programs align with industry trends, regulatory requirements, and the school's strategic objectives. Identify emerging trends and opportunities in legal education and develop innovative new programs and initiatives to address them and raise incremental revenue.
  • Strategic Planning and Partnership Building: Develop a strategic plan for revenue generation through innovative executive and professional education and sponsorships. Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with law firms, corporate partners, government and public interest organizations, professional associations, and alumni networks to expand program reach and enrollment. Partner with the Dean, members of the Senior Leadership Team, Alumni Relations and Development, the Career Strategy Center, Public Interest Center, the Law School's academic programs, and other units at Northwestern in these efforts.
  • Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and direction to a team of 3- 5 staff members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Recruit, develop, and mentor staff members to ensure their professional growth and success.
  • Program Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of executive education programs and the Law School's continuing and professional education programs, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Coordinate with various Law School departments including among others Marketing and Communications, Alumni Relations and Development, Career Strategy Center, Public Interest Center, Admissions, Executive LLM and academic programs, research centers, the Bluhm Legal Clinic, and other units at Northwestern.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Partner with the Law School's Marketing and Communication's team to oversee marketing and outreach efforts to promote executive and professional education programs. Together with that team, develop and implement marketing strategies to promote programs and attract qualified participants.
  • Participant Engagement: Provide exceptional support and guidance to program participants throughout their learning journey. Foster a collaborative and interactive learning environment that encourages networking, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
  • Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Monitor program effectiveness and participant satisfaction through feedback mechanisms and performance metrics. Identify areas for improvement and implement modifications to enhance program quality and relevance.
  • Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure all executive and professional education programs and non-JD initiatives comply with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in legal education. Maintain accurate records and documentation for reporting purposes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, an MBA, or a relevant masters degree, with significant experience in legal education, executive education, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in program development, management, and administration.
  • Strong understanding of legal industry trends, challenges, and opportunities, particularly in the context of executive education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of project management, strategic planning, and budget oversight.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and program development.
  • 7 or more years of increasingly responsible legal, higher education, or business experience, executive education, including recruiting/human resources or client services for a law firm or corporate legal employer or a similar role which involves extensive marketing and/or sales with law firms, corporations, and other organizations.
  • Previous management experience, including establishment of strategic goals, developing, and managing the training of employees at both the professional and support level; and reviewing and sustaining appropriate staffing levels.
