The Director, Global Integrated Evidence Strategy is an important leadership position for creating and maintaining Otsuka's vision for evidence planning, leveraging both strategic and operations excellence. The Director, Global Integrated Evidence Strategy is responsible for developing Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) for Otsuka assets. A successful candidate will collaborate closely with, and/or be a critical partner to Early Phase & Translational Medical, Clinical Development, Value and Real-World Evidence, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Data and Analytics, Digital Health and Commercial functions. The successful candidate will demonstrate a mix of scientific, evidence planning and generation expertise and enterprise leadership along with a passion for growing a new functional area, solving difficult problems, and identifying opportunities to improve evidence planning and generation. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

Key responsibilities

  • Continually assess areas of strength and areas for improvement in evidence strategy/planning and operations at Otsuka
  • Support in development of Global Integrated Evidence Plans (IEP) that represent a single source of truth on evidence related activities for a given asset across functions and geographies
  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions and challenge functional representatives to ensure evidence plans are aligned with global asset strategy and overall asset vision
  • Work with Early Development Teams and Product Development Committees to update and pressure test evidence plans throughout product lifecycle
  • Partner closely with integrated evidence generation operations team to consider important foundational tools and operational aspects before, during and after integrated evidence planning, e.g., evidence catalog, budget management, performance management, necessary internal improvements including Otsuka documentation
  • Facilitate maximal use of available evidence across cross-functional teams and identify best practices
  • Develop and maintain expertise in existing evidence catalog, stay current with ongoing Otsuka evidence generation activities across disease states and assets, facilitate maximal use of available evidence across cross-functional teams and identify best practices
  • Serve as a go-to subject matter expert for a strategic point of view on the value of evidence generation, specific challenges, or marketplace dynamics
  • Provide expert scientific feedback on study concepts and study protocols in governance meeting and review processes
  • Prepare, review and present materials to Otsuka and alliance governance committees and leadership
  • Attend professional conferences relevant to evidence generation
  • For this newly formed functional area, continue in communicating the overarching vision and group's remit, strategic imperatives, ways of working, and roles and responsibilities

Innovation pillar (desirable)

  • Proactively explore innovative, novel approaches to evidence generation opportunities across the Otsuka portfolio, e.g., innovative study designs, RWE label expansion
  • Ensure novel evidence generation approaches are aligned with necessary GxP and compliance frameworks and conducted in efficient fashion
  • Provide input on optimal asset programs for pulling through prioritized digital, data and analytic use cases

Qualifications/Required

Knowledge/Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise in psychiatry, neurology and/or nephrology
  • At least 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical and/or evidence generation in life sciences
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of pharmaceutical industry, evidence requirements in US and globally, key concepts and principles related to Ph1-4 studies including an understanding of strengths and limitations of a methodological approaches
  • Established record of relevant peer reviewed scientific publications and congress presentations
  • Possess an enterprise mindset and experience establishing strong collaborative internal relationships in a matrixed organization with global and local colleagues
  • Ability to gain senior leadership alignment on integrated evidence generation initiatives and programs
  • Excellence in strategic thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrated skills working in complex corporate environments and exercising influence without authority
  • Ability to line-manage and mentor direct reports and ensure positive team dynamics
  • Strong scientific writing skills and interpersonal written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to create an environment with high energy, enthusiasm, and motivation

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences

Minimum $179,721.00 - Maximum $268,755.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work. Other elements may be used to determine actual salary such as the candidate's job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role.
