Ultrasound Technologist III - Urgent Care (IPT)

The Ultrasound Technologist III is responsible for performing sonographic procedures by the application of ultrasound to produce images under a variety of conditions and assisting physicians as required in the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

Job Relationships



  • Reports to the Advanced Imaging Operations Manager



Principal Responsibilities



  • Produce quality sonograms.
  • Possess knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Obtain previous related exams that will help evaluate the current exam.
  • Know the capabilities of the equipment.
  • Assist physician with procedures as needed.
  • Prepare sonogram images, including appropriate history and complete worksheet, identifying pathology and providing accurate measurements for interpretation.
  • Verify all images have been sent to PACS correctly.
  • Review next day schedule to check for accuracy.
  • Review reports from exams as a learning experience.
  • Must possess knowledge of sterile procedure.
  • Will be responsible when using clinic computers and telephone as needed for patient care.
  • Must have computer knowledge in the following systems: RIS (to include, but not limited to: schedule/reschedule/replace exams, end exams, check patient history, enter comments, enter "STOP" payment, and print features), PACS (including sending images to outside facilities with appropriate documentation), EHR, Employee Benefit system, and Radiology home page.
  • Maintain GUS soaking system utilizing safety equipment and provide proper documentation regarding maintenance and testing, if applicable.
  • Maintain supplies for Ultrasound and communicate to the Supervisor when additional supplies are needed.
  • Report equipment failures to Supervisor and have general knowledge to troubleshoot equipment for problems and call for service if necessary.
  • Assist patients in transport within Radiology and throughout the Springfield Clinic campus.
  • Responsible for the orientation and training of new Ultrasound technologists.
  • Submit proper forms to request paid time off and enter time off in payroll tracking system.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.



Licenses/Certificates



  • Must have one of the following:



  1. Active registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), including two (2) or more registrations in the following categories: Abdomen (abdomen and small parts)-RDMS, Breast-RDMS, Obstetrics and Gynecology-RDMS, Vascular-RVT.
  2. Active registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography.



  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must work in a specialty location (i.e. ASC, Ortho, etc.) at least 80% of the time and/or take part in the departmental weekend and holiday rotation

  • Must possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.
  • Must have the ability to perform occasional heavy lifting, i.e. transferring patients to exam tables.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting and twisting.
  • Must be able to work with arms above head.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time while using transducers for scanning.
  • Must be able to assist patient to and from carts and table.



Working Environment



  • Will be exposed to fumes from cleaning agents and GUS soaking system chemicals.
  • Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
