Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for analysis and review of SOM Financials and process oversight, coordination, management and tracking of funding critical to the operational and strategic objectives across the School, Health System and Campus. As a representative of the SOM Dean's Office team, the finance analyst is expected to exhibit a high degree of professionalism through attention to detail, accuracy in work, and ability to independently utilize resources to resolve ambiguity or resolve issues/discrepancies. Further, the individual will be key central resource for individuals across the system and ensuring communications are clear and understood.

The incumbent will be able to efficiently manage their workload to meet dates and deadline, and be adept at swiftly pivoting and prioritizing in response to urgent issues as they arise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training/experience in related fields or discipline in finance, accounting or similar.
  • Previous financial analyst experience, preferably in an Academic Medical System or higher education.
  • Advanced organizational and analytical skills to manage general assignments proactively and independently, ensuring successful completion of complex projects and events, with the ability to handle all details effectively.
  • Advanced-level analytical and problem-solving skills to thoroughly and independently research, collect, analyze, and interpret data, and to assess the potential impacts of decisions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous or incomplete information and synthesize it into clear, and presentable information based on experiential knowledge.
  • Advanced organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage projects with competing deadlines, set clear goals, prioritize workload effectively, and remain adaptable when managing people and multiple demands.
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and make effective decisions, leveraging comprehensive knowledge of Campus and University priorities, resources, and policies.
  • Strong ability to integrate feedback and maintain accountability for all decisions and actions taken.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budget preparation and management, including overseeing all operations of a year-long project, with the ability to evaluate revenue opportunities and implement cost-containment strategies effectively.
  • Exceptional diplomacy and judgment skills to represent UC Davis, School of Medicine, in interactions with a wide range of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in executive-level office environments, with the ability to represent the SOM Executive Leadership Team with the highest levels of professionalism, tact, and discretion.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to communicate effectively and professionally in various contexts, including sensitive or complex situations, and to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of existing systems, including Aggie Enterprise, with the ability to quickly learn new systems; prior experience as a subject matter expert in system implementation and change management is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to interact diplomatically with a wide range of personalities, exercising sound judgment and tact in interactions with faculty, staff, students, the public, and government officials.
  • Comprehensive knowledge or ability to learn the operational and long-term goals and policies of the University of California, UC Davis, the Health System, and the School of Medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to work strategically with senior officials and executives, providing creative solutions and alternatives when needed.
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems or obstacles, assess associated risks, and take proactive steps to minimize negative impacts.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills to produce high-quality correspondence and other written materials quickly and accurately.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality standards when dealing with sensitive matters, with the ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment in potentially sensitive or controversial situations.

Department Overview

The U.C. Davis School of Medicine is one of the nation's top research, academic and medical training institutions, with more than 3,100 faculty and staff, 460 students, and 818 trainees in graduate medical education. The School of Medicine Dean's Office is the central office that oversees and leads the School, a critical part of the University of California as well as the U.C. Davis Medical Center.
