Summary:

Reports to the Director Brown University Health Home Infusion Services. Plans organizes coordinates directs supervises and evaluates the provision of nursing services for Brown University Health Home Infusion Services (LHIS) enrolled patients. Establishes and implements LHIS policies and procedures that ensures nursing services are aligned with the appropriate standards of care. Collaborates with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care for patients. Ensures that LHIS nursing standards of care meet the intent and requisites of the applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies. Incorporates the Magnet Model Framework for Excellence into strategic planning and operational initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Plans organizes coordinates directs supervises and evaluates the provision of nursing services for Brown University Health Home Infusion Services (LHIS) provided in both free-standing infusion centers and in-home settings. Ensures that LHIS nursing standards of care meet the intent and requisites of the applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies.

Manages LHIS nursing services standards of practice and other related professional and clinical aspects of patient care.

Establishes and implements nursing policies and procedures that are consistent with system-wide nursing care standards.

Coordinates with the Director LHIS to develop short-term and long-term goals for the program. Participates in development of the nursing budget for the program monitors expenditures and reviews variances.

Participates in the development review and update of patient home infusion therapy teaching material.

Develops implements reviews and updates patient care performance improvements standards and monitoring on an ongoing basis. Serves on multidisciplinary quality improvement committees as assigned. Prepares and implements action plans for areas identified for improvement as needed.

Prepares appropriate documentation to maintain statistical information on all LHIS nursing care services.

Oversees the master nursing assignment and patient appointment schedules. Monitors and modifies patient scheduling based on availability of resources (e.g. staffing chair space time) and in consideration of urgent or emergent situations. Utilizes the on-call program to ensure sufficient and appropriate nursing staff to meet the needs of patients and families.

Serves as a liaison between home infusion clients providers referral sources hospital departments governmental agencies home care service organizations discharge planners community groups and other resources.

Evaluates and resolves problems and complaints should they arise between staff patients and/or families in a timely manner. Provides guidance and coaching to staff as needed. Reviews problems and complaints with Director as appropriate.

Audits LHIS nursing records for complete and accurate documentation of nursing process implementation of provider orders administration of infusions and ancillary medications and adherence to policies and procedures.

Monitors patient outcomes to ensure that quality competent and caring services are provided to patients.

Participates in the organizations nursing leadership councils and collaborates with Magnet Recognition Program nurse leaders.

Incorporates the Magnet Model Framework for Excellence into strategic planning and operational initiatives to promote the critical role of nurses in achieving improved empirical outcomes through transformational leadership structural empowerment exemplary professional practice and new knowledge innovations and improvements.

Evaluates the individual performance of each member of the LHIS nursing staff provides feedback and coaching to enhance employee*s professional development. Documents and tracks staff competencies.

Completes annual nursing staff performance appraisals.

Participates in the recruitment orientation and retention of qualified nursing staff.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Performs duties and responsibilities of LHIS primary nursing staff as patient and staffing needs dictate.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited College of Nursing required; Master of Science in Nursing or related health-care field is desired. Consideration will be given to candidates currently enrolled in a master*s program.

Maintains current unrestricted licensure to practice as a Professional (Registered) Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five years progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal to interact appropriately with patients families colleagues and others.

Proficient in the use of technology and a variety of spreadsheet and database applications including Microsoft Office Word Excel Outlook and Teams as well as PowerPoint presentation software.

SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision of up to 25 FTEs.
