Position Description:
Research Technologist III
Purpose
The Schaefer Lab in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology and the MCW Cancer Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, is looking for a Research Technologist III (Research Technician). The research focus of the lab is to uncover the molecular mechanisms by which the small GTPases RAS and RHO drive gastric and pancreatic cancer development and therapy resistance using cutting-edge cancer biological techniques.
Primary Functions
- Develop, improve and implement a variety of laboratory techniques and carry out routine complex experiments under general direction.
- Perform cell culturing and molecular biological experiments (Western blot, PCR etc.).
- Develop and apply standard quality control procedures, provide individual instruction and may indirectly supervise other lab personnel as required.
- Create and maintain timely accurate records.
- Conduct and supervise assigned duties such as routine lab maintenance and preparation of lab solutions and reagents.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain lab inventory and order lab supplies and materials.
- Participate in meetings with the Principal Investigator and other researchers to evaluate and interpret the validity of data, to share ideas and to evaluate methodologies impacting the quality of research.
- Keep abreast of research techniques and methodologies that might facilitate designated research projects.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
- Knowledge of basic laboratory approaches as well as cell biological and molecular biological techniques.
- Experience in CRISPR technology or 3D organoid cell culturing is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and teamwork skills.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail.
- Strong ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocols.
- Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Required Experience: 3 years of work in a laboratory setting
