Advanced Practice Provider (Head & Neck) About City of Hope, The successful candidate: The Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery Physician Assistant is a provider working under the supervision of an Otolaryngology/Head and Neck surgeon to provide comprehensive care to patients with disorders related to the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assists the attending physician in providing a variety of patient care activities including daily inpatient rounds, outpatient follow-up visits, consults, writing orders, and procedural support. Perform surgical evaluation for both malignant and benign disease of thyroid and parathyroid glands Proficient with identification and management of urgent and emergent ENT scenarios that include angioedema, bilateral vocal cord paralysis, tracheal stenosis, or upper airway lesions/masses that lead to airway compromise. Procedural competencies required: ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of neck masses, bedside diagnostic interventional procedures to include flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy, rigid nasal endoscopy, bedside nasal debridement, control of anterior and posterior epistaxis, bedside nasal/oral cavity biopsy, and urgent airway evaluations. Performs or assists in routine laboratory, screening, therapeutic, diagnostic or patient care procedures Reviews treatment and therapy plans Orders therapy treatments, diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests/procedures, and therapeutic diets as necessary Assess patient perioperatively, customize perioperative and discharge plans, monitor wounds, and handle post-operative care Instructs and counsels patients in matters relating to health care management including diet, medication, growth and development, and physical and mental health Obtains and records detailed and accurate medical histories Performs complete physical examinations as necessary Communicates changes in patient condition to attending physician Acts as a liaison between nursing staff or other services and physician Facilitates referral of patients to health facilities, agencies and community resources Reviews observations and completes patient charting Sees patients in the office for cancer surveillance and perioperative care Performs female pelvic examination as part of routine gynecologic cancer surveillance Recognizes and evaluates situations which call for immediate attention of the supervising surgeon or attending physician As necessary, utilizes treatment procedures essential to preserve the life of the patient Completes written documentation Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and other healthcare personnel, while assuring confidentiality of patient information Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure, and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality
