The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Piano to begin August 18, 2025. Duluth hosts a growing and thriving arts community in a landscape that balances small-town feel with big-city opportunities.

Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Piano, you will teach undergraduate courses, conduct research, advise students, and serve the college, campus, university, discipline, and local community. Additional responsibilities include coordinating departmental programs, curriculum development and recruitment of piano majors.

Salary range: starting at $47,272 commensurate with rank and experience with relocation expenses

Primary duties of this position will be to teach courses to a diverse group of undergraduate students, including applied piano, class piano, piano literature and pedagogy, and other courses as needed in areas of expertise. Additionally, this individual will coordinate outreach and recruiting activities and develop effective strategies to build enrollment in the piano performance program at the undergraduate level. The candidate will find many opportunities to perform as a soloist and collaborative pianist.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Music (DMA or PhD) from a nationally accredited institution. The doctorate must be completed no later than August 2025 (ie degree in hand in August 2025 when position begins).
  • National recognition and accomplishment as a professional pianist
  • Record of success as a teacher of applied piano
  • Minimum of two years postsecondary teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano from a nationally accredited institution.
  • International and national recognition and accomplishment as a professional pianist
  • Record of success in recruitment and retention of piano majors.
  • Minimum of three years postsecondary teaching experience
About the Department
