Job Summary

The Per Diem Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will report to the Clinical Supervisor, Speech-Language Pathology, and will be responsible for both direct and indirect patient care services. The Per Diem SLP will plan, assess, and implement therapeutic interventions for patients with a variety of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. This role requires flexibility, as it offers per diem hours and will involve working primarily with adult and geriatric patients in an outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and clinical swallowing assessments for patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic intervention plans based on patient assessments, including setting measurable goals and objectives.
  • Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to improve communication and cognitive-linguistic function.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress, treatment plans, and outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families about strategies for improving communication and cognitive function.
  • Stay up to date with the latest research and clinical practices related to neuro-rehabilitation.
  • Participate in case reviews and contribute to team discussions.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Masters degree with clinical fellowship and minimum of 1 year of related patient care experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior speech language pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.

License/Certification


  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
  • AHA BLS CPR
