Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively searching for a Field Inspection Intern to be based out of our Baton Rouge, LA office for summer 2025. As an intern specializing in bridge inspections, you will be a member of a certified team that provides inspection services across the State of Louisiana and the Southeast region. The principal function of this position is to evaluate bridges through above ground engineering inspections.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Partners with other professionals and departments to gather information for projects
  • Performs bridge inspections
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection group
  • Conducts inspections and assists in supervision of site investigations as needed
  • Utilizes field computers to record field observations
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of reports including data entry, text writing and photo editing
  • Data entry/manipulation and technical writing for the preparation and review of inspection reports, proposals, etc.
  • Works closely with other engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
  • Reviews shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Performs construction site inspections and prepares inspection reports

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program, Master's desired
  • Committed to travel within the State of Louisiana
  • Excellent technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports
  • NHI bridge inspection certification desired but not required
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Proficient using AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office required
  • EIT preferred
  • Selected candidate must consent to and a pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug screening
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is field based, which may necessitate climbing, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather. Ability to use standard office equipment.
