The Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Northwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek a dynamic clinician-scientist dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurogenic language and/or cognitive communication disorders. This position offers an opportunity to join a highly collaborative and well-supported research environment within one of the nation's leading academic institutions.
Damage to neural language networks can result in aphasia and cognitive-communication impairments, impacting communication and quality of life. Stroke alone affects approximately two million Americans. Advancements in neuroimaging have improved understanding and treatment of these disorders, presenting an opportunity to enhance expertise within our department and collaborate with Northwestern's research groups. The ideal candidate would grow Northwestern's reputation in research and treatment of neurogenic communication disorders. The Department has strong ties to multiple research entities and clinical community partners such as Northwestern Memorial Hospital, providing a strong infrastructure to support translational research and collaborations across disciplines.

Preferred starting date: September 1, 2025.

Duties: Development of a fundable research program, teach courses in speech, language, communication, or learning, direct student research, and provide doctoral student advising.

Qualifications: Earned PhD is required. The candidate is required to teach courses in the Department and develop interdisciplinary research affiliations with other units of the University. Experience working with diverse communities of students and/or scholars. Clinical certification is preferred.

Salary: This is an Assistant or Associate rank search. The expected base pay based on rank is as follows:
Assistant Professor 110-125K
Associate Professor 125K - 145K
This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation. Research discretionary funding (a start-up package) will also be provided. Summer salary, including from sponsored projects, may also be available.

The Department: The Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is home to undergraduate, professional, and doctoral research programs that explore the science of human hearing, speech, language, learning, and swallowing and seek new and more effective ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat related communication disorders. The department's faculty are renowned for discoveries that have changed our understanding of human communication. They explore the processes that underlie hearing, speech, language, learning, and swallowing, including sensation, perception, cognition, and motor control. They investigate social, familial, and cultural issues that impair communication. And they delve into the molecular and epidemiological bases of normal and disordered human communication. Our professional audiology and speech and language pathology programs are currently ranked among the top five programs in the nation by US News & World Report. Students, faculty and staff work together to provide patients of all ages with a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for hearing, speech, learning, cognitive-communication, language, voice, and swallowing disorders in clinics on the Evanston and Chicago campuses. Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning (NUCASLL). NUCASLL is a multifaceted university-based non-profit clinic whose mission is to provide and expand the highest quality, evidence-based, speech, language, learning, and hearing healthcare to the community. NUCASLL offers extensive services in audiology, speech-language pathology, learning evaluations, and community wellness initiatives, and serves as a leading-edge teaching facility for students and a valuable translational arm for faculty in the School of Communication.
