Summary of Primary Functions: As a tractor-trailer driver, responsible for executing job assignments in the most efficient, safest, and professional manner possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products.
Drives tractor-trailer to deliver product to job sites in a safe and efficient manner using learned skills and knowledge. Wears required personal protective equipment while on duty. Receives daily instructions and load assignments from local dispatcher. Executes load assignments that are compliant with all Federal, State and local DOT rules, regulations, curfew restrictions and permit constraints; Reports any delays or down time to dispatch. Completes all required paperwork daily; including trip summary, driver logs, vehicle inspection reports, bills of lading. Verifies the proper load assignment by checking pertinent information on the bill of lading. This information is the trailer number, job number (when used) and piece marks (daily per load). Uses learned skills and knowledge to secure the loads as specified by DOT rules and regulations and THE policies and procedures (daily per load). Uses supplied chains, ratchet binders, straps (when specified) and corner guards to secure the load and protect product from damage. Straps may not be used on any finished good products (daily per load); Ensures that no loose material or dunnage is unsecured while in transit (daily per load). Responsible for keeping tractor clean and presentable; Reports any maintenance problems to the maintenance department, using required forms, and informs dispatch of the same. Bring non-compliant loads to the attention of the local dispatcher as quickly as possible. The conditions of non-compliance are to be presented in a courteous manner to the local dispatcher for resolution. The driver shall assist with resolving the problem provided no Federal, State or local DOT rules, regulations, curfew restrictions and permit constraints are violated. Maintain contact with jobsite supervision to insure proper placement of trailers for off-loading; Obtain customer signature for proof of delivery and/or for wait/work time sheets when required. Ensure that tractors and trailers are in good working condition by performing pre and post trip inspections.
Job Specifications or Qualifications: Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Commercial Driver's License Class A; Ability to pass DOT Physical; Ability to Pass DOT Drug and Alcohol Test
Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
Experience: 1 to 3 (+) years of driving experience is required.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, this position will require working outside when loading and unloading a haul and will be required to be in various environmental elements. This position will also be sitting in the truck and will be in the environment of the truck. Travel Required: 90-95% daily. Occasional layovers required. -
