Position Summary: This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. 2 years plus experience required. CMN required. Midwife will provide health care and specialized health services within pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team. This position is both inpatient and clinic based. Clinic(s) Information Henry Ford Health Jackson 205 N East Ave Jackson, MI 49201 Henry Ford Women's Health Center - Cascade Ridge 3305 Spring Arbor Road Suite 500 Jackson, MI 49203 - Independently evaluates patients in the clinic and in the hospital - Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results - Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management - Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members and other ambulatory care providers - Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction - Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals Schedule - 40 hours per week (36 patient contact hours, 4 hours administrative). On call days replace clinic day. Weekend requirement - Will be required, no in clinic though. Call requirement - 12-hour days call with the 2 FT CNMs that Center for Family Health is hiring. Will sign out to the OBHG CNMs for night coverage of patients. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. In collaboration with physician(s), APP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in Midwifery. 2. Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable 3. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods 4. Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic 5. Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed 6. Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups 7. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop 8. May perform clinical research related to specific operations 9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures 2. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration 3. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards 4. Ability to perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures 5. Life support as required through privileging 6. Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public 7. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment 8. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques issues, and approaches in area of expertise 9. Ability to communicate therapeutically with patients and families 10. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations 11. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements 12. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions 13. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records 14. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training Practices in a formal relationship with obstetricians so that consultation and transfer of a patient is always available. Functions within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a provider of inpatient and outpatient prenatal, natal and postnatal care, including periodic gynecologic and breast examinations. A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), with core privileges, can admit and discharge normal obstetrical patients, elicit histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret tests, make diagnoses, institute treatment, order consultations, and treat common diseases. Specific procedures within the specialty are individually credentialed. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires Masters Degree in Nursing; licensure as a Certified Nurse Midwife; licensure as a Registered Nurse; and BCLS certification.
