Clinical Research Coordinator

The Global Neurology Research Group focuses on evidence-based research to develop new interventions for neurological diseases in resource-limited populations and U.S.-based research on multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica (NMO).

This includes supporting early and late-phase clinical trials for MS in Boston. The group also spends time in international collaborations for and with resource-limited settings.

In this role, the CRC1 will primarily support MS clinical trials that are recruiting and enrolling patients at the Massachusetts General Hospital. These studies include evaluating outcomes in MS following experimental disease modifying therapies administration, and studying the duration and timing of therapies for MS patients. Multi-center collaborative trials and support of participants and trial conduct will be the main emphasis of this role.

Additional work will be in the recruitment and survey of patients with rare neuroimmunological diseases and database development, e.g. the study of social determinants of health in NMO by patient survey. The coordinator will have direct human subjects contact at the Massachusetts General Hospital, including recruitment, enrollment, and in-person participant study visits.

Other recent diseases studied include epilepsy, stroke, and cognitive problems.

This is an in-person position based at the Neurological Clinical Research Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital's Department of Neurology, 165 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA. The coordinator will work closely with the principal investigator, Dr. Farrah Mateen, a neurologist and international health epidemiologist in the Department of Neurology and her research team which includes students in the Boston area and global collaborators.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will play a pivotal role in clinical research activities by assisting with the following:

- Assisting with clinical studies for Boston-based and possibly overseas-based patient populations

- Assisting with data entry, data analysis, and query resolution

- Coordinating and submitting ethics board applications

- Patient study visits in Boston

- Managing study binders for clinical trials documentation and monitoring

- Designing figures, tables, presentations

- Manuscript and grant application submissions ad hoc

- Other duties as assigned

Research ethics training modules including good clinical practice at Mass General Brigham (required)

BA/BSc (required)

- Familiarity with IRB processes preferred

- Familiarity and background working in a research setting preferred

- Familiarity with a statistical software package and RedCap software an advantage

- Office-based environment
