Acara Solutions has been providing advanced manufacturing firms around the U.S. with our staffing related services for over 65 years. Our San Antonio semiconductor client has an opening for a Director, Category Management - Chemicals, Gases and Masks. This is a salaried direct position with full benefits located in San Antonio, TX. Salary range is up to $215K.
Ideal candidate will have semiconductor fab sourcing experience, but procurement of gas cylinder or hydrochloric acid or xenon in bottles experience is acceptable. Strategic sourcing experience is a must. A senior manager candidate that is ready for a director title will be considered.
This is an onsite position from day one. Global responsibilities. The right individual will have the demeanor and confidence to not only present in front of a supplier's executive team, but also holding one's own in front of our organization's demanding executive team.
  • This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the VP of Global Supply Chain
  • Category responsibility will include wet chemicals, bulk and cylinder gases, and photomasks for company globally
  • Responsible for the 7-step strategic sourcing process of the assigned category of materials, parts or services as follows:

1. Identify sourcing needs: Analyze the firm's global needs and past spending patterns. This includes company wholly owned entities and joint ventures as appropriate.

2. Supply market analysis: Analyze the supplier market and potential suppliers to identify risks and opportunities, in addition to considering costs drivers like raw materials and transportation.

3. Develop sourcing strategy and evaluate supplier suitability: In collaboration with internal partners, use market research insights and data analytics to create a strategy that outlines supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management. Define the RFP/RFQ process to be used as appropriate along with objectives and performance metrics.

4. Supplier analysis: Use the market research and supplier analysis to identify suitable suppliers and establish selection criteria. Using the data gathered in steps 1-4, establish aggressive opening price positions, aggressive price targets that will be achieved to determine a successful negotiation, and at what price point escalation will occur. Secure management approval of the negotiation plan to go to step 5.

5. Negotiate with suppliers: Plan and execute the negotiation with the down selected suppliers. This includes planning questions to ask, how you will answer supplier questions, positions to be taken, and how concessions will be traded for supplier movements. Negotiate favorable contract terms with the selected suppliers within the bounds approved in section 4 and own the escalation process to achieve targets.

6. Execute and integrate: Make sure that the vendor, internal end-customers, and everyone who is affected by the process is involved in the design and execution of the solution. Smooth execution is only possible with a transparent process and extensive communication across the departments.

7. Benchmark and track results: Focus on supplier relationship management, data analysis, and process optimization to validate cost savings and execution efficiency.

  • Lead Category meetings with buyers across the organization's global sites in Israel, Japan, and the US
  • Initiate and cooperate on cost improvement projects, with the involvement of cross-functional teams, such as Engineering and R&D.
  • Update and maintain the Category Strategy over time, including market and supplier analysis in addition to business continuity plans.
  • Monitor and measure supplier performance and compliance with agreed terms of supply and quality requirements, through structured scorecards and supplier business reviews
  • Monitor and renew existing agreements per business need. Propose, initiate and finalize new agreements to improve operational efficiency, cost, aid business performance.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (ideally in Chemical Engineering).
Min 10 years of supply chain and category management experience, with ideally at least 5 years supporting semiconductor fabrication and a big plus if that includes sourcing for photomasks, chemicals, and cylinder gases. Procurement of gas cylinder or hydrochloric acid or xenon in bottles outside of semiconductor experience is acceptable.
Min 4 years of strategic sourcing.
- Knowledge/experience with 7-step strategic sourcing process
Min 3 years of corporate business/financial acumen/analysis within procurement.
Min 5 years with MS Office, including strong Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Min 3 years in a section head or engineering role (director or above) within semiconductor fab or very similar.
Master's degree
A history within engineering at a semiconductor fab before moving into supply chain
