Lecturer in Recreation Management

A Master's degree in parks, recreation, or tourism management, or a related Master's degree (e.g., outdoor education/leadership, human dimensions of natural resource management).

The RMPE department enrolls around 350 majors and is comprised of Recreation Management, Health, Physical Education & Coaching, and Physical Education Activity programs. The Recreation Management program has 240 students and has been continuously accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions ( COAPRT) since 2001. The program has a faculty with backgrounds and experience in the entire spectrum of recreation. A combination of classroom and hands-on experience with one-on-one advising is emphasized. The Recreation Management program is fortunate to be located in the mountainous northwest corner of North Carolina. The region includes Mount Mitchell (the highest peak east of the Rockies), the Blue Ridge Parkway, the New River (part of the Wild & Scenic Rivers System and an American Heritage River), Grandfather Mountain, several NC state parks, four ski resorts, the Pisgah National Forest, and numerous recreation oriented resorts and private developments. ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
