Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred. Must have experience have past SW Development Lifecycle and MIL-STD-882.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time from hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:

As a Systems Safety Engineer for General Dynamics Mission Systems, you'll be a member a cross functional design team responsible for performing safety analyses to identify hazards and risks. You will ensure the software running on the systems we develop meet relevant safety standards and regulations.

  • Knowledge and experience with the SW development lifecycle, documentation, and verification of requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of System Safety design and operations safety principles to include experience with hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation.
  • Experience ensureing software products adequately implement safety-significant functionality per established government standards and regulations (MIL-STD-882E, DO-178C, and SSMAN 91-710).

What sets you apart:

  • Experience in SW Coding, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence concepts.
  • Generation and maintenance Software Safety Program Plans (SSPP) including SW Level of Rigor (LOR).
  • Defining hardware/software safety requirements and ensuring flow-down into the Systems Engineering SW process.
  • Assist in performing a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, to include Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Software Safety Hazard Analysis.
  • Assist in reviewing engineering design specifications, SW development, change proposals, deficiency reports, and deviation/waiver requests for safety impacts.
  • Support SW integration and qualification testing.
  • Success leading the systems development life cycle with strong proficiency with requirements management and system modeling tools.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to provide technical leadership and position others for success.
  • Experience working with US Navy combat systems or platforms.
  • Strong presentation and communications skills with experience in the art of negotiation and the ability to meet challenging customer requirements with win-win solutions.

Workplace Options:
This position is on site in our Pittsfield MA facility, when not supporting classified tasking telework is an option.
While on-site, you will be a part of the Systems Safety Engineering unit.

Target salary range: USD $107,520.00/Yr. - USD $119,280.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
