Description

BILLING SPECIALIST

BILLING OFFICE

FULL TIME - NON EXEMPT

General Summary: This position focuses on system integrity and development, along with the enhancement of staff capabilities in regards to the billing cycle. Assure that protocols and best practices are utilized among all billing staff within the scope of the full cycle of billing claims. Balance all aspects of the high-volume daily functions of the department, along with maintaining and organizing the volume required of this position.

Essential Responsibilities:




  • Review and resolve denied claims and other problems with an account.
  • Pursue complex appeals and resolve complex problems.
  • Oversee request for flex bills and client statements.
  • Oversee to requests for client balance verification and account refunds.
  • Research issues or inquiries arising from management.
  • Respond to log and billing issues from all staff.
  • Oversee specialized billing, such as per diem, CFIT and ADHD clinic.
  • Report and discuss computer issues with IS Department.
  • Attend meetings regarding system development and interdepartmental work flow.



Additional Responsibilities:




  • Attend all agency/department required training and meetings within the prescribed period.
  • Attend all Safety Training programs and be able to describe his/her responsibilities related to the general safety, department safety, and specific job-related hazards and responsibilities.

  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job.

Education, Experience and Competencies:




  • Associates degree in related field or technical certificate in medical billing, financial software applications or a combination of education and equivalent related experience.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
  • Five years of progressive hands on experience in any of the following: computerized medical billing preferably in behavioral healthcare; accounts receivable and collections in the medical field; training or supervising of billing staff.



Certifications, Licenses Requirements:




  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job.
