I. GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position prepares, sets-up and delivers patient trays, carts nourishments and floor stock, ensuring accuracy, attractiveness, timeliness and temperature of each food tray provided for patients. Performs a variety of sanitary tasks and trash removal essential to good sanitation of the kitchen and work environment.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Sets-up assigned stations.
  • Assembles trays according to menu selection.
  • Prepares cold food items and desserts according to production sheets.
  • Delivers trays to patients, picks up trays from patients.
  • Stocks patient care units with food and paper supplies following proper rotation and par levels, delivers 10,2,8 nourishments.
  • Strips, sanitizes, stacks, patients' trays and utensils in dishroom, reassembles tray line.
  • Cleans refrigerator and countertops on patients' floor kitchens.
  • Transports patient trucks to and from patient floors.
  • Cleans and sanitizes pots and utensils equipment, floors, walls, dishmachine, etc.
  • Removes trash from assigned workstation and/or from kitchen to specified area.
  • Acts as liaison between dietary and patient units.
  • Performs other similar job related duties as required or directed.
III. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate simple mechanical devices such as coffee urn, dishmachine, slicer, trash compactor.
  • Ability to use a knife for slicing, cutting, dicing.
  • Physical skills required: standing and walking for 95% of the day, straining and lifting approximately 30lbs., pushing loaded carts (approximately 400lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate with patients and employees from other departments.

EDUCATION:

  • Ability to read, speak basic English, and follow instructions.

EXPERIENCE:

  • On the job training.

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Exposure to heat, cold, steam, chemicals and hot equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to garbage and trash.
  • Potential possibility of cuts, punctures, and strains.
  • Contact with employees within own department and hospital.
  • Contact with patients, enters patients rooms.
