Assistant/Associate Professor of Primary Care

Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Primary Care to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by being responsible for teaching and developing curriculum for primarily first-and second-year medical students. This position reports to the Chair of Pre-clinical Skills and Assistant/Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of activities in Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) 1 & 2 (e.g., Clinical Systems, Physical Diagnosis, Early Clinical Experience, Medical Simulation courses, and related programs)


  • Participate in learning activities of ICM 3 & 4
  • Develop, direct, and oversee, in partnership with collaborating faculty and Clinical Chairs, opportunities for Clinical Skills development using simulation in the pre-clerkship and clerkship period
  • Participate in establishing and monitoring the goals, objectives, and content of the Introduction to Clinical Medicine Course 1 & 2 in collaboration with the Chair of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Skills
  • Ensure course content maps to the NBOME Core Competencies, NBOME Blueprint, and the EPAs
  • Coordinating clinical skills education in collaboration with the Chair of Pre-Clinical skills and Chair of Clinical Skills and the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs
  • Participate in the OSCE program for Osteopathic students across all four years
  • Participate in Interprofessional Education Events
  • Develop and deliver clinical lectures in systems courses across OMS1 and OMS2, Professional Identify Formation, Clinical Colloquium 1 & 2
  • Developing and/or review assessment methodologies
  • Developing learning objectives, activities, and assessment methodologies to assure program goals/outcomes are met
  • Monitor course and program evaluations, and aggregate student performance, to assure high quality experiences and learning outcomes
  • Direct (co-direct) courses/ components as required
  • Function as a content expert for clinical skills education within and, as appropriate, outside of the COM
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to faculty, staff and students
  • Participate in committees articulated by the MU-WCOM faculty addendum
  • Contribute to the advising processes, procedures, and activities to support MU-COM students in their pursuit of desired GME placement
  • Assist, as needed, in advising learners who are having difficulty achieving expected learning outcomes and work with faculty in the formulation of targeted skills development and remediation plans
  • Participate in preparation for and conduct of COCA accreditation site visits
  • Engage in teaching, service, and scholarly activity and research
  • Serves as a faculty participant in the Professional Identity Formation Series, Clinical Colloquium 1 & 2
  • Promote and foster an innovative teaching and learning environment conducive to academic excellence
  • Coordinate activities consistent with the mission, strategic goals and objectives of MU and MU-WCOM
  • Advances the vision and strategies of the Dean for the efficient and effective operation of the WCOM


Required Qualifications:

To be qualified for this position the candidate must meet the following requirements:



  • A DO or MD degree with AOA or ABMS board certification in a primary care discipline (family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics, others considered).
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching in academic/private settings or GME
  • A proven track record as a clinician teacher, and public servant in a variety of settings
  • Hold an unlimited license to practice medicine in the state of Indiana


Essential Functions:

  • Comply with Marian University policies and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills to successfully engage with
  • Have knowledge of levels of the COMLEX-USA and steps of the USMLE licensure
  • Effectively represent the COM with professionalism and effective collaborative interactions with external entities, including clinical partners, representatives of educational organizations, and governmental agencies.
