Overview:

Process Improvement Engineer

The Process Improvement Engineer works under the general supervision of the Sr. Director, Organizational Excellence relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. The Process Improvement Engineer provides oversight and guidance on TIDC functions relative to safety, quality, delivery & cost of work performed. The Process Improvement Engineer utilizes Lean principles to work with the TIDC Senior Leadership Team in an on-going review of departmental procedures and practices, identifying opportunities for improvement related to safety, quality, delivery and cost. Utilizing independent judgement and discretion, the Engineer provides feedback and reporting on discovered issues, recommends solutions and collaborates with the TIDC Senior Leadership Team to implement effective process improvement initiatives. The Process Improvement Engineer ensures follow up on projects and; as needed, provides training in collaboration with the Operational Excellence Training Department.

This position is not remote, but onsite daily in Wilmington, OH.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, establishes and implements process improvement utilizing Lean principles for all distribution center departments.

    • Devises and reviews specifications for products or processes; excluding technical specifications.
    • Leads the various teams in developing and deploying the Lean principles throughout the distribution center departments, focusing on MDI (Managing Daily Improvements).
    • Collaborating with the Operational Excellence team; reviews, validates and implements standards where applicable.


  • Creates and maintains project plans for smaller initiatives.

    • Completes the work breakdown structure to estimate labor hours needed to complete a project.
    • Monitors progress against tasks, quickly identifies tasks that are at risk of falling behind schedule and addresses the cause of delay.
    • Manages stakeholders throughout the project.
    • Provides status reports.


  • Works closely with associated IT personnel and business process owners and workers.
  • Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills to include creating presentations, creating documents in Word to include advanced formatting, creating spreadsheets to include the use of macros. 
  • Knowledge of Lite Assembly Manufacturing and Distribution Functions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Lean principles, Kaizen, Gemba, Standard Work, 5s, Value Stream Mapping, Managing Daily Improvements.
  • Knowledge of CAD design with ability to evaluate and design process changes within the distribution functional areas.
  • Process engineering with the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives within all cross functional teams.
  • Leadership skills with ability to manage and develop Project Teams.
  • Negotiation skills with ability to secure best purchasing agreement for customers and company.
  • Adaptable with ability to switch tasks based on shifting priorities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to present professional demonstrations.
  • Creative with ability to develop original solutions to problems.
  • Decisive with ability to make a prompt determination and substantiate decision if challenged.
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
  • Organized state of mind with ability to document activities, anticipate problems, plan schedules and monitor performance according to priorities and deadlines.
  • Quick study with ability to master a situation or learn new things with minimum direction or training.
  • Supportive mentor with ability to guide and develop team members.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • Greenbelt Certification in Lean and/or Six Sigma a plus.
