Construction Inspector - Mid / Senior Level

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Construction Inspector to join our Honolulu office. As part of the Construction Group, the Construction Inspector will coordinate on-site investigation activities in support of soil improvement design and structural assessment. On-Site investigations include, but are not limited to, geotechnical site work, topographical surveying, ground penetrating radar, and pot holing to confirm the location of existing utilities. On-site investigation is anticipated to take six to nine months starting in January 2025.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Field Manager working 5 days per week on site to provide observation and logistical coordination for AE site investigation work
  • Hold daily Check-In Meetings with AE Site Investigation Teams to update daily activities and pre-plan work to avoid conflicts and potential disturbances to active site activities
  • Liaise between the Client/Owner and AE Site Investigation Teams to facilitate timely logistical coordination ahead of work activities
  • Work closely with Stakeholder personnel and AE Site Investigation Teams to resolve conflicts that arise during site investigation work
  • Understand and monitor AE Site Investigation Team's Best Management Practices (BMP) and bring corrections to the attention of the Site Investigation Team's Supervisor for resolution
  • Provide updates to the Design Manager on a regular basis to report start/progress/completion of ongoing activities, conflicts that cannot be resolved in the field, approaching site investigation activities, and approaching conflicts that will require resolution
  • Prepare daily reports recording daily production on site, deliveries, weather conditions, and status of upcoming and ongoing site investigation activities
  • Maintain a complete file of all written records prepared by or submitted in connection with the project

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field preferred
  • 2 to 4 years construction related experience in the U.S. preferred
  • Shall have the ability to obtain DBIDs and CIA passes
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • Valid driver's License
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Preferred education and experience

  • Engineer/Project Supervisor experience
  • Construction coordination experience

Base salary range:

$90,000 to $110,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Hawaii markets.

Working conditions:

Majority of work if field based, which may necessitate climbing, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather. Ability to use standard office equipment.
