Chassis Controls Test & Validation Engineer

As a Chassis Controls Test Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing, validation, and analysis of safety critical chassis controls software (stability and traction control, ABS, etc) as well as other electronic chassis systems including steering and braking. Your work will ensure these systems meet performance, safety, and quality standards. This role involves hands-on testing, data acquisition, and supporting both vehicle and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan and execute tests for chassis control systems, focusing on vehicle dynamics, safety, and reliability.
  • Conduct vehicle testing, including ride and handling evaluations, stability assessments, and performance tuning, using data acquisition and analysis tools.
  • Collaborate with the Chassis Controls Engineering team to define test requirements, methods, and success criteria for chassis systems.
  • Support the setup and operation of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing environment, including integrating and testing chassis control modules.
  • Instrument test vehicles with sensors, data loggers, and other equipment, ensuring accurate data collection on chassis control performance.
  • Analyze test data and generate detailed reports, providing insights and recommendations for system improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with test setups, including vehicle instrumentation and HIL systems.
  • Travel to test locations to conduct track and road testing, as well as support prototype vehicle development.
  • Document test procedures, results, and findings in a clear and organized manner, contributing to the overall knowledge base and best practices for chassis control systems.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, new testing technologies, and best practices in vehicle dynamics and control systems testing.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in vehicle testing, data acquisition, and analysis, particularly with chassis control systems (e.g., steering, braking, suspension).
  • Familiarity with vehicle dynamics concepts and testing methods, including ride and handling evaluations.
  • Proficiency with data acquisition tools and software (e.g., CANalyzer, CANoe, MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel for testing activities as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with HIL testing and simulation tools (e.g., dSPACE, National Instruments).
  • Software scripting experience (Python or similar) preferred
  • Experience with vehicle testing, racing and/or at limit driving
  • Proving Ground driving certification
