Do you want to use your experience, skills, and education to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families? At Tennessee Cancer Specialists, it is the privilege of our employees to walk with our patients and their families as they move along the journey of fighting cancer. Whether you are working directly with patients in one of our clinics or a support role, you are essential to our mission to deliver the highest quality, compassionate care. Our 200+ employees make up the teams at our 16 different East Tennessee locations and have helped us achieve the Top Workplaces award two years running for the greater Knoxville area!

As a Medical Assistant, you will assist our providers with patient visits so they can always be a step ahead in assessing and determining patient treatment plans.

Responsibilities

Here's what might happen on a typical day...

Your medical assisting experience makes you one of our most multifaceted employees. You are able to get to know our patients and their medical history to ensure our providers have any and all information required to provide quality care. As a Medical Assistant, you take care of a lot of behind-the-scenes work.

While our providers have high expectations of you as a medical assistant, your attention to detail and the task-oriented approach you take to your job will help you exceed these expectations. You roll out the red carpet for each and every patient to ensure a positive and consistent experience.

Experiences that matter...

  • When greeting our patients to escort them to their exam room, your smile and positive attitude help them feel welcome and comfortable in our clinic.
  • Your listening and thorough charting skills allow you to accurately record patient information and recognize any significant details that will need to be shared with the provider.
  • In conversations with patients, coworkers and other professionals, you communicate respectfully and thoroughly listen to any shared details.
  • You will use your investigative skills to obtain patient records, test results, etc. while following all applicable HIPAA guidelines.
  • When scheduling and completing patient forms, your attention to detail is apparent.
  • Your go-getter work ethic will have you ready to jump in and help out with any additional tasks.

For your safety, keep this in mind:

  • This position will require standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 40 pounds or less.
  • You will need manual dexterity, proper hand-eye coordination, full range of motion to possibly assist with lifting patients, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Qualifications

We feel this position requires these basics:

  • A medical assisting certification is highly preferred. However, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Additionally, your current BLS certification will be required upon hire as well.
  • Entry level medical assistants are required to have around 0-3 years of experience; a senior level medical assistant will have 5 or more years of experience.
