Position Purpose

As the Tax Manager, primary responsibilities are to execute the Family Office's tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for all business, individual, and estate tax matters. This role manages the tax reporting processes and ensures that internal and external reports/filings are timely, accurate and in accordance with all applicable regulatory guidelines.

Functional Responsibility

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the function
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Contributes to the preparation of the departmental budget and monitors spending
  • Provides immediate feedback and directly assists team to maintain level of productivity and deliver daily results
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Immediately informs management of employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions


Essential Duties

  • Directs the completion of federal, state, and local income tax returns including all related analysis and support
  • Supports completion of the tax returns for the Company's owners
  • Consults with ownership on current taxes and tax planning
  • Works with outside tax consultants and advisors and completion of "prepared by client" schedules in support of tax returns
  • Responsible for sales and use tax functions
  • Responsible for property tax functions for all properties
  • Manages all federal, state, and local tax audits
  • Coordinates with outside CPA firms on owner's quarterly tax liability, payments, and filings
  • Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes
  • AssistsFinance and Accounting Director - Family Officein estimating and monitoring annual cash taxes and related shareholder taxdistributions
  • Assesses the proper accounting treatment of tax planning strategies related to the Family Office's current businesses and any proposed business initiatives, and determines the related impact on the business/individual effective tax rates
  • Monitors changes in tax law, including analysis of legislative efforts, regulatory pronouncements (IRS, Treasury, & state taxing authorities) and judicial developments

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; Master's in business or taxation preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting, public accounting and tax experience
  • 3+ years leadership or supervisory experience



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Ability to stay abreast of changes in tax laws
  • Critical thinker with excellent analytical skills
  • Skilled in the use of computers, preferable in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
  • Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports


Certificates and Licenses



  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $91,062.24 to $142,541.76. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
