This individual will use their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to join our team and positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required. You will work directly with NASA and our Team supporting the Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Orbital Reef Space Station that will maintain a human presence in LEO going forward into the future.

This opportunity will report to the Vehicle Design Team inside of the Orbital Reef Program.As part of a growing, hardworking, and curious team of design engineers, you'll be deployed to programs that shape the future of Blue Origin. Your skill in the design and analysis of tooling, testing equipment, and support equipment, as well as your ability to deliver safe, reliable, ready-to-use hardware that meets requirements, while doing so within theallocatedcost and schedule requirements, will lead to a rewarding career with Blue Origin.

Responsibilities:

  • Design equipment for production and testing of spaceflight hardware, which may include engine gimbaling mechanisms, docking systems, solar and radiator deployment systems, hatches, and deployable or retractable external covers.

  • Participate in the entire design cycle of hardware, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, dynamics, development testing, and qualification. Generate component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

  • Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware. Participate in subsystem-level testing including planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis. Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.

  • Leverage experience and engineering judgement to quickly design and produce non-flight, proof of concept hardware for fast-moving research and development projects. Participate in a small, agile team to create and adapt to frequently shifting priorities.

  • Manage internal and external teams to develop and/or produce equipment that meets expectations, including technical, schedule, and cost parameters.

  • Travel up to 25% to support work at Blue Origin locations, as well as customer and vendor sites

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years experience with a strong background in design/analysis/fabrication of GSE & Tooling mechanical systems (i.e. fixtures, platforms, mechanisms, vehicle GSE, aerospace tooling, etc.)

  • History of successful delivery of end items within cost and budget constraints

  • Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling and simulation tools (CREO preferred)

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, qualification testing, material selection, material compatibility, and manufacturing techniques

  • Proficient in technical writing, communicating sophisticated ideas clearly and concisely

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Ability to work independently driving engineering from conceptual to released engineering and operational hardware

  • Experience working in a multi-functional team to produce world-class engineered products

  • Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production

  • Willing to travel up to 25% to support project needs

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • Experience writing proposals, statements of work, and/or specifications

  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with design and analysis of metallic and composite products, and bolted, welded, and bonded assemblies

  • Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques (automation/robotics/controls, additive manufacturing, delicate assemblies, composites) and rapid prototyping and development techniques for hardware

  • Experience with DfX (Design for Cost, Test, Manufacturing, Assembly, Automation), optimization, and Design of Experiments methods as applied to design, analysis, and testing

  • Experience with automation, control network components, HMI, and machine vision programming, and selection of sensors in test and production equipment.

  • Experience creating/managing development/production schedules, budgets

  • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and performing tolerance stackup analysis

  • Experience with multiphysics analysis software (ANSYS, NASTRAN, Optistruct, LS/Dyna, Abaqus, etc. )

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
