LNG Operation Training Specialist

The LNG Operations Training Specialist reports directly to the Training Team Manager and is a member of a multi-disciplined crew responsible for the training of operations and maintenance personnel for liquefied natural gas (LNG) import/export and liquefaction/re-gasification terminals, including LNG process systems, infrastructure, power/steam generation, controls and emergency response, and operation of the Distributed Control System (DCS) consoles.

An understanding of safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures is essential. Understands LNG plant operating procedures, safe handling practices, equipment, maintenance protocols, governmental regulations and related technical and safety codes, standards and reporting requirements is required. In-depth knowledge of the physical properties of LNG, its production, and process equipment is required.

May be required to develop instructor-led training (ILT) and structured on-the-job training (SOJT) to support qualification of personnel on Distributed Control System (DCS) consoles and LNG process systems, safety protocols, plant utilities, loading/unloading of LNG ships, environmental, safety, operations, and security procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience



  • 3+ years' experience developing operations training in an industrial setting process/product chemical engineering or operations, or power plant operations, depending on type of experience.





  • Recent experience working in an LNG facility is preferred, however, petrochemical NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or hydrocarbon processing experience may be acceptable.





  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of analytical chemistry, laboratory concepts and techniques, and measurement of liquids for quality and inventory purposes.





  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of environmental regulations.





  • Must be able to demonstrate advanced computer skills with a knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Excel.





  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication skills, and mathematical skills.





  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems.





  • Ability to conduct onsite equipment and process walk downs, including working at heights.





  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license and TWIC card.



Education Requirements



  • Training or significant experience using the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process is required.





  • Preferred: Associate, Other Education: Mechanical, Electronic or related field.





  • Formal education in related technical or engineering discipline or related military training/experience is desirable.



Knowledge Requirements

Demonstrate an understanding of the various types of equipment in LNG facility, including:



  1. Utility operations, including air, water, sanitation, steam and nitrogen.





  1. Electrical power generation operations.





  1. Ship loading/unloading systems operations





  1. Emergency shutdown (EDS) systems.





  1. Fire and gas detection and suppression systems.





  1. Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) operations.





  1. Basic machinery diagnostics.





  1. Basic communication and administration procedures.





  1. Basic Maintenance Management System (SAP) applications.





  1. Distributed Control System (DSC) operations.





  1. Process controls.





  1. LNG pump operations.





  1. LNG liquefaction plant operations, principles, and theories.





  1. LNG measurement equipment and processes.
