Job Summary

The PA position is a Surgical First Assist. The role of the First Assist will be to participate in and actively assist surgeons during the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care. This position will assist in completing the operation safely and expeditiously by helping to provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and other technical functions under the supervision of the surgeon. Must be able to travel to and between operating rooms at a rapid pace. Inpatient post-operative care will also be required. Must have good organization, judgment, problem solving, and safety awareness skills. The ideal candidate will thrive working in a high paced academic environment with focus on teamwork and excellent patient care.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $89.66 - $120.66 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1-2 years recent experience working as a Physician Assistant as a first assist in an operative setting
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined
• Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
• Ability to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described
• Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population
• Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions
• Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3+) years gynecologic surgical oncology experience as a first assist
• Proficiency performing gynecological exams
• Experience working in an Academic Medical Center

License/Certification

• Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
• California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
• Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
• Active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
• Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master's degree program as a physician assistant.
• Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
• Current AHA BLS.
