The Vertex Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary:

Our team works to understand the complex immune challenges that face transplanted cells. We are seeking a motivated Co-op to help us elucidate the role of pre- and post-transplant antibodies in this response and how these work in concert with the immune response as a whole. The VCGT Immunology team distills complex immune questions into fundamental subsets and works collaboratively and cross-functionally to answer these questions and how they contribute to a larger immune response.

Key Responsibilities:

The Co-op will play a vital role on our team, working in collaboration with several expert immunologists. Specifically, he/she/they will help establish a serum screening protocol for high-throughput detection of antibodies and other immune players. The nature of this work will entail aseptic primary cell culture, multi-color flow cytometry, bead-based Luminex assays, ELISAs, and preparation of samples for sequencing by PCR. Additionally, antibody-based selection of immune subsets and culture of primary immune cells, as well as other immunology-specific methodology, such as ELISpot and live cell tracking methods, may come into play as the projects progress.

Qualifications:

• The candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution, pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in a Biology-related field, and only students in Junior year or above can be considered.
• The candidate must have a demonstrated record of leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.
• The candidate should be in good academic standing.
• The candidate should have a demonstrated interest in the life sciences and pharmaceutical research, ideally with prior wet-lab experience.
• Legal authorizationto work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
• Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before July 2025
• Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July - December 2025.

Pay Range 20.00 - 35.00 USD/hour
